THE BIBLE WAY TO RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is a gift from God. In the scriptures there is a difference between being born of the spirit and being filled with the spirit. When we are born again we receive eternal life. The life and nature of God recreates our spirit - our inner man. We become the "New Creature" that II Corinthians 5:17 speaks of.
In John 14:16, Jesus spoke of the comforter (The Holy Spirit) stating emphatically that the world cannot receive him "Because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him". People in the world - Those who are not born-again cannot receive this experience of the Holy Spirit that Jesus spoke of. Only born-again people can be filled with the Holy Spirit.
As we study the new testament church, it is apparent that the first christians believed that receiving the Holy spirit was an experience that came after salvation. We can see this most clearing in Acts chaper 8. (Acts 8:5, 12, 14-17 ) In verse 5 Philp went down to the city of Samaris and preached Christ unto them. In verse 12 when they believed the message Philip brought concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus CHirist, they were baptized both men and woman.
In verse 14 the apostles witch were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John. In verse 15, when they were come down and prayed for them that thay might receive the Holy Ghost. In verse 16 "For as yet the Holy Spirit was fallen upon none of them only they were baptized in the Lord Jesus. In verse 17 "Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Ghost. There are lots of places in the new testament that tell us how to receive the Holy Spirit.
We receive the HOLY GHOST and receive power. This power is to help us in praying for ourselves and for others. When we pray in tongues we are talking with a straight line to GOD and the devil cannot interrupt as he does when we pray not in the HOLY GHOST(tongues) I hope this will help you.
